I admit it, I have a cluttered desk. And not just one. My desk at my work and my desk at home are both a cluttered mess. No matter how many times I manage to clean them up, within days they are a mess again. It’s not intentional, it just happens.
People have told me that “a cluttered desk is the sign of a cluttered mind”. My retort is that “if that is so, what’s an empty desk a sign of?”.
I am a prolific multi-tasker. I normally using at least two computers (with multple screens on at least one of them) along with an iphone and ipad nearby as well. I may be reading two or three books or magazines at once. And I’m often bouncing back between various issues.
Outside of work I’m involved in several things as well. I’ve been actively involved with Boy Scouting for years. I’m a leader at my church, and served on the board of directors of the Oldham County Educational Foundation. And if that isn’t enough, I have two adult kids whom I am so very proud of, and have a little side business where I do websites for non-profits.
Needless to say, I have a lot of things going on. Consequently, my desk is always a mess. But sometimes, amidst all that mess, I still manage to write a thought or two about leadership or technology. I hope you enjoy them. And maybe, someday I’ll get that desk cleaned up.
